"Get on the Bus " @ City/Space 6/15/06

This show was about public transportation. Anything and everything relating to the bus and getting on it made its way into the space. Some of the more interesting pieces were the ones that surprisingly took the show title very literaly.

Here is a picture of a performance piece staged on the inside of a gutted old school bus. The artist invited people to tell a story about how they came into the world. It was very appropriate with the womb like walls an close quarters. This piece cashes in on part of the trick that has made Oprah millions- everyone has a story to tell if you give them a forum to tell it.

I liked this piece. It was a number of campy reconstructions of New York city buses by artist Michael Pellew. I loved the fragility of the little paper buses.

I really liked these pieces by artist Marc Babsin- the subject matter really lends itself to beautiful photographs. What's not to like? A maxed-out painted bus is always a good time. I wish I knew a little more about the significance of the bus however.
