"Accumulations" @ Live Worms Gallery 4/29/06

The Accumulations show featured ten current and graduated alum from SFAI (woot!). There were paintings, performances, installations and one multi-media piece. The show was hip and gritty. The artists appropriated some popular of the mission school streety-ness without getting too cutesy. There was an underlying emphasis on broken down systems and thought mapping in the show. With Zane Peach (one of SFAI's celebrated alumni) and Amber Cady works they both created employed thought pattern schemas exploiting the brain's endless subconscious powers.

The highlight for me was Owen T's tape birds and gun wrack. Way to go Owen :)

This is my other favorite piece, by Spencer Hansen, that originally came with performance photos. A naked monkey-man suit! Check out the pictures that go with it on his website, spencerhansen.net.

Alex Braubach used his corner installation to relate a smattering of found, created and collaged images, almost a satire of urban standards of beauty.

Another Alex Braubach installation. Or is it? I found one of those little guys in my studio and it almost gave me a heart attack until I realized it was plastic. Thank the sweet lord.
