Michael Zheng "As the Butterfly said to Chuang Tzu " @ Mission 17 Gallery 5/26/06

Michael Zheng's solo show "As the Butterfly said to Chuang Tzu" was a collection of minimalist installations. Zheng's attention to space and use of everyday objects reminded of some of Richard Tuttle's more subtle pieces- where the installation consisted of a drawn line leading to the ceiling with a small block of wood at the end. The emphasis was on questioning perceptions and paying attention to nature as opposed to Tuttle's more formal experiments.

I loved this piece because of the great attention to detail right at the edge of the paper. It's hard to see here, so you'll have to check it out.

What's behind the shades? I actually had this idea... slightly different of course. I guess he beat me to the punch.
